Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO)

CRO is the first and most obvious way to get more out of your website, but it has some important pre-requirements.

Adjust your perspective slightly of how you view your audience interacting with your site.
Start by looking at things that they would want to do on your website - we call these "goals"

There will be obvious ones like:

  • Z Place an order
  • Z Fill in a contact form
  • Z Click on a phone number

But consider for a minute that for every 100 visitors to your site, on average only 1 will complete any one of your goals.

So it makes sense to have more goals, so you can interact with the other 97% of your audience.  Consider adding additional goals such as the following:

  • Z Sign up to a newsletter
  • Z Follow you on social media
  • Z Ask for a quote
  • Z Download a useful document

Once you've extended your list of goals, the next best part of CRO is in getting more people to complete them.  And there are some great, really simple techniques to help with that such as:

  • Z Create Call To Action (CTA) buttons
  • Z Make the CTA big and obvious
  • Z Move the CTA higher up the page (people get bored and give up easily!)
  • Z Always have a CTA at the end of a page (you've read that, now do this!)
  • Z Make sure forms are really simply and don't ask for too much info
  • Z Use technology like address auto-fill to help people complete forms
  • Z Keep Shopping processes as clean and simple as possible
  • Z Avoid clicking out to 3rd party sites to complete payment
  • Z Use Analytics tools to measure your goals
